Made to be useful to him, more like...
[bitterly.
...
he gets quiet at those words of reassurance.]
... I still can't accept this face, no matter what.

[Good evening, Rynlan. If you're in the dormitory on the evening of Wednesday, you may see Zelgadis walking in the hallway and... looking different.
There are feathers stuck to his clothes, wedged in his needle-like hair, just. Everywhere. He's covered in some kind of filth that's hard to identify -- it's translucent and crusty and smells oddly sweet.
He looks over to see that he's been spotted, and faces Rynlan with a tired expression.]
... Need a change of clothes.

[There's a long stare.]
I could ask the same of you.
I could ask the same of you.
... Corn maze. A lot happened.
[Zelgadis's clothes are also torn; a few glimpses of blue stone can be seen through cuts over his left shoulder and chest.]

[He lifts a flap of torn cloth to show him. His chest is solid blue rock.]
My body's one-third rock golem, remember? I don't get injured that easily.
[Indeed, there is no blood. Whatever cut through his clothes got stopped at his armour-like skin.]

[He nods, grudgingly. Said corn syrup also appears to be what's making all these feathers adhere to his clothes. It's terrible.]
Between the homicidal scarecrows and booby-trapped vegetables, I'd say I'm done with that place for a while.
[His gaze turns to the visible bandages on Rynlan's arm.] Looks like you already got treated, but how bad did they get you?

[He studies the arm for a moment, then sighs.]
It's certainly annoying to have to get by without healing magic...
[He doesn't react when Rynlan starts plucking feathers off. He's probably going to have to learn to use the laundry machines later...
... However, when Rynlan plucks one from atop Zelgadis's shoulder, something happens.
A tiny, shadowy appendage strikes out from behind Zelgadis's neck, swiping at Rynlan's hand (or perhaps at the feather he just picked up). It flails a few times in several quick motions, then disappears, slipping back into the hood of his cloak.]

[........
A moment passes, and the shadowy creature springs out of his hood again, swiping and gnawing at another feather stuck to his shoulder. This time, it stays in view long enough to be identified.]
... I found it in a pumpkin patch.

[Oh. The kitten is immediately entranced by it, its wide blue eyes following the motion with fascination.
Zelgadis just shakes his head. Nope, no name.]

[A nod. It was indeed just out there.]
... Guess I'll try the food court later.
[This kitty will dine on McNaldo's patties or... something.
... Anyway it can restrain itself no longer, and it starts batting eagerly at the feather.]

You have? ... That would help a lot, actually.
[He picks up the kitten and holds it out. Please babysit this creature. He has no idea what he's doing.]
