I have a much easier time focusing on important matters! It's really amazing how much time humans — and others, it seems — devote to their relationships, whether it be acting on them or thinking about them... or about their lacks thereof.
[ shrugs! ]
Don't get me wrong, though; I wouldn't have it any other way. It's part of what makes them interesting. They're so messy.
Oh, holding up a barrier around a gate to the demonic world, helping the government deal with a panicking population that can suddenly see demons, and overseeing the education and training of many of the exorcists who fight them.
[-at first he honestly just looks a little shocked mephisto is actually answering.]
That explains the academy in your information, then-- and I'd guess time and space control would lend themselves pretty well to barriers, wouldn't they, or is that an entirely different sort of magic?
[both ears are perked because he's a fucking nerd]
That's refreshing, some of my colleagues have been known to complain that it's not long enough.
[ (that is NOT what she said ;) )
there's a snort of laughter at that question, though. ]
Demons differ vastly from one another, so it's hard to compare them as a whole to anything else... but I can safely say that no, there aren't any like these.
Oh, I suspect there's a good reason for that. While it may be the case that there are other worlds that work much differently than mine, I think much of this isn't at all what they say it is.
I'm not in much of a position to say whether Hell is or isn't real, it's not an afterlife we've ever referred to.
[but- hm. his ears twitch.]
A few of us have commented before, though, on how it doesn't seem quite like what it's supposed to be. Not fully lacking in the torment aspect, they did assign us to the same room, but less so than I'd have thought.
Well, to be fair, as far as my own world goes, the typical image of fire and brimstone and little red devils with hot pokers is a lot of cartoonish embellishment made up by humans who'd never seen anything of the sort for themselves. Gehenna is the world of demons, not something created strictly for the sake of humans — torturing them or otherwise.
Mortals have nothing to do with where demons come from in Azeroth, either. They come from the Nether, and return to it if they're destroyed in the mortal realm.
...demons are also used as servants, by certain types of magic-users who summon them from the Nether, but-- it's generally looked down upon. Corruptive magic and all.
Depends on what I want it to do. It's versatile enough-- offensive, mostly, but also designed to target and break an opponent's mental defenses. So, by the same token, a shadow priest has to have a high resistance to it themselves to avoid being affected by the power they draw on, if they pull too much from the Void.
It has both, but so does the Light. They're bound to each other-- neither exists without the other, and both are equally responsible for creation.
The Void is the stronger of the two, magically speaking, but it can't heal the way the Light can. Not in the same way. [he considers a moment, thinking.] For example, I can heal myself through leeching an enemy's life, and I could normally save someone else with shadow magic. Theoretically. But I would have to twist our life forces and exchange them, so it's highly unlikely.
[ stifling another laugh halfway through that explanation. don't worry about it. ]
I see.
I don't believe my world really has "magic" in the same sense as yours. [ a little hum. ] Did you have any particular thoughts on the shadows that have shown up during executions?
[he's satisfied enough with that for the moment, though.]
As for the shadows-- it's not exactly like what I'm used to, but that's... it's the sort of thing you might expect shadow magic to do. Draw out things like that to turn them against someone. Usually it would be less physical, though.
As I said, magic of the kind you and some others refer to doesn't really exist in mine, and I don't like making potentially ill-informed, baseless theories. I'll defer to the shadow experts on this one for now.

[a very accurate one... that's partly why he prefers to avoid them, thank you.]
If not any kind of love, though, then do you ever feel any-- connection to others, I suppose is a way to phrase it?

No, that's it. I stopped time inside of it to slow the gate's expansion for a few months.

[ughhh he refuses to say he's impressed
but he's impressed.]
Are the demons there anything like our six here? They're nothing like what we'd call demons at home.

[he's not a dragon though because dragons have definitely been in love with people before, that is not a dragon thing...]
I have to wonder if any of us do know of demons like them. I don't think anyone I've talked to has.
