It's meant to be as personal as possible. I wouldn't relish having my own conversations repeated back for all to hear.

It is prying. The words were not his, he did not share messages he wished for us to have. It is part of the torture, to watch.

Suppose it still just feels a little wrong, not to be there when someone dies.

I have been present at the deaths of many people. It is good for them to have someone there, with them. But I do not believe it is necessary for everyone to be present. Goodbyes can be said before the final moments.

Speaking for myself, I would rather be alone than become a spectacle.
