But that was... before I was touched by the Void. Elves are sensitive to magic, we rely on it. Being around concentrations of it will change us over time. We've more or less become distinct species as a result of that, night elves are more like cousins to high elves now.
The same thing happens faster with heavy infusions of different types of magic. For example, high elves who consume enough demonic energy quickly become demonic, just like they would if they had slowly absorbed that energy over decades. For us... it was shadow.
