[ hewwo there. ]

It's immediately better than the last one with the Kraken thing. No doubt about it.

[ he hates octopi now, actually. ]

Careful, you might be tempting fate there.

[ but he does take a seat. kinda hard not to feel a bit out of place in a fancy looking place like this— all golds and wood and, well, the music isn’t classy but the general aura of everything else is. 🧍date with the ratty little ponytail just sat here. ]

Are the drinks weird again, or are you sticking to the beer of varying decency?

[ date doesn't even get to order his own drink before he's plummeting into the hole alongside rynlan, which is a minor annoyance, but enough of one that there's a put out little "hey!" from him that follows them on their tumble.

he doesn't get a lot of time to take in his bearings or take in almost anything before he's being thrown into whatever memory has rynlan so spooked and agitated.

he can't understand a lot of it -- prosthetics? those are fine. he knows what those are in theory, but how these are working, being made... it's unfamiliar to him. there's something about it that reminds him of the white of the psync room, glowing lights circling the psync machine, stark and quite frankly sci-fi. but the talk of mana and the overall feeling from the memory is foreign and strange.

and the man? he can only assume from context that the person he's seeing is rynlan. even though they look so, so different.

when the memory fades, he opens his own mouth to say something, but before the words come out his own memory (3:54-- 9:33; cw: talk of child abuse) is too busy parading itself around on the screen.

there's something a little tight about the set of date's mouth as he watches this one. somewhere between anger, anxiety and deep, fresh grief all rolled into one. ]

[ they can be back in the classy bar on memory island for the tolerable beer and other options. date is clearly not drunk enough after that debate session, and already has a beer in front of him -- but he's also having a stare down with a fruity little cocktail perched next to it.

which is impressive, given that the cocktail doesn't have eyes. ]

I don't trust it.

Be my guest. [ it's the one that makes you spout high pitched gibberish, for the record. ]

Ah. I got a message but there was no sign of who sent it. I figured it was probably him though. Like... a direct message? There was a lot of static.

Has he been spreading the information or splitting it between us?

I'm guessing you do, then?

[ he takes a sip of his beer. ]

It was mostly a description of what's ... wherever the others are.

He didn't, no. He just talked about where they were and that he missed us.

He mentioned a city, full of humans and demons? Sounds like they've been there a long time. No one talks to them they just push them to one side because they're new there. It seems like that's Hell -- as in where everyone is actually going to be spending eternity. They have to find their own living space, and he said something about finding a job and that he missed this side of hell compared to where they are now.

[ ... ]

He also said they can see the trials and exections.

At least we know they’re somewhere, even if it then throws up a load more questions about where here is.

[ maybe he can become a librarian ]

No, just that they could. I probably need to get a message back to him to follow up on a few things — I can ask?

… He’d probably enjoy that, honestly. If it’s the connection with this place he’s missing, might as well keep it up.

Same.

[ … ]

We’ve been losing people weekly, and it’s all sucked. But this one really sucked. Maybe that’s shit of me to be more down about one case than another, but that’s just life I guess.

[ you can be sad about what’s been happening, and then you can be Sad when it hits you too personally. i say like he wasn’t an alpaca like two hours ago, fighting a sci-fi sugar daddy. ]

It can’t all be as clean cut as “wow, you sure chainsawed a woman death for— reasons I’m not sure I have the time to unpack right now”. The… concerns someone had gone for a weaker target just because were a bit more widespread, I think. But…

It was just bad across the board.
