but! we're here for memshare, so after a moment, before he can say anything else... they get memory holed. he grumbles as he starts picking himself up off the floor, but freezes at the sight of what's on the screen, hair tentacles shifting in agitation.
the most notable thing about the rynlan in the memory that's displayed is that he isn't blue at all, and very tentacle-less-- he's pale, blond, half-dressed, with a myriad of reddened scars standing out starkly on his skin. they almost completely cover the left side of his body, straying a bit onto his midsection but primarily onto his back as well-- claw and tooth marks, most of them, roughly human-sized, with much more roughly-textured patches where some of the flesh is missing. they're heavily concentrated in some places; his left hip area and upper left leg look like they could be completely covered in scar tissue.
the other notable thing is that in place of the rest of the left leg, there's a prosthetic, attached partway down his thigh: some form of silver metal, in two distinct pieces. the upper and lower parts of the leg are separated by a spherical, faintly-glowing blue crystal, making it a sort of ball-joint situation, and both parts are inscribed with matching blue runes.
'go ahead and test it,' one of the people observing him says, and his brows furrow. 'channel mana into it and think about it, it'll be second nature to you in time.'
he hesitantly focuses, exhaling a slow, calming breath as he lets his natural flow of mana enter into the limb. another few moments, and he tries flexing it-- it's a slow and awkward motion, but it bends successfully at the joint, and the movement becomes marginally less awkward as they run through other tests. moving it, standing, testing to ensure it bears weight.
one of them glances to the mirror in the room, while he's standing, and says, 'if you'd like a better look at--'
'no,' he mutters immediately, glowing green eyes shut as he shakes his head. he's avoiding letting his gaze drift in the mirror's direction. 'no, it's fine. are we finished here?'
the other healer is silent for a few moments, but shrugs. 'very well. as i said, it'll be more natural in time, and you'll need to continue working with it, but you should have a more or less normal range of motion once you've fully acclimated. honestly, i can't imagine why you took so long to agree, we've been telling you that leg needed to go for-'
'a couple of years. i know. i've done it now, you can leave me be.'
his voice is clipped, there, a little colder. the narration of his thoughts isn't so much a direct narrative but a sort of memory within a memory; while it doesn't show a scene, there's the memory of his own voice, distraught, nearly screaming at someone. 'everything-- everything else is gone. everything i cared about. i already lost all of it and you want me to give up more, you want to take more from me, i won't-- can't i keep something?!'
'you're already healed,' the other healer says, a little distantly, 'but we'll have you stay here until we're satisfied you have enough mobility on your own. we can't strain your body too much until it's used to the mana flow.'
he takes a seat to let them remove it again, ears pinning back slightly, and that's where it fades.

He didn't, no. He just talked about where they were and that he missed us.
He mentioned a city, full of humans and demons? Sounds like they've been there a long time. No one talks to them they just push them to one side because they're new there. It seems like that's Hell -- as in where everyone is actually going to be spending eternity. They have to find their own living space, and he said something about finding a job and that he missed this side of hell compared to where they are now.

It's natural to be closer to some than others. I didn't know the kid, I was almost more-- concerned someone had tried to pick off a weak target. Worried about who might have decided to kill him specifically.
